Announcing the inaugural Apartment Sector Leading Light winner - Sharni Howe
When the judges created the Apartment Sector Leading Light category last year with the WAAA Apartment Awards for Excellence, it was designed to recognise those professionals in the sector that have shown true leadership over a sustained period to time. With 2022 it's inaugural year - there was no doubt the judges had a variety of leaders to choose from.
Needless to the say, the recipient of the 2022 inaugural Apartment Sector Leading light already comes highly regarded, being the recipient locally for the “Russel Taylor Award for Design Excellence” (2013) and part of the team for the FIABCI, World Prix d’Excellence Award (2015), internationally, for Masterplanned Communities. They have also contributed to WA's civic life, with senior appointments to specialists governing committees, like the “Perth City Rail Advisory Committee”, the WAPC Central Perth Planning Committee; as well as the Subiaco Redevelopment Authority Board.
She has lectured at the Architects Association in London, at Tulane University in New Orleans and at UWA. In all her work she believed it was her responsibility to be an advocate for future users, giving them a voice in the design phase.
She has worked closely with industry leaders such as Mike Day, Peter Lee and Adrian Fini and was designing apartments before there were any floorplates in existence. For these reasons and so much more (including her appetite for profanity) Sharni Howe was named the worthy winner of the 2022 Apartment Sector Leading Light award.
Congratulations Sharni!
