Innovation and technology at the fore
This was a hotly contended category with some exceptional projects. The judges awarded two special commendations.
The first special commendation is a development that has achieved One Planet status which is extremely rare, and this company invested in the long term future of the site, which is also rare. The design which was sensitive to its neighbours and provided light and airy apartments with fabulous views, really was a project worth noting. This project is Liv by Hassell.
The 2nd commendation is for an entrant that has created a child care centre within their aged care living and the degree of detail and sensitivity that this company demonstrated to providing both independent living as well as high end care was well received by the judges. This entrant has already been acknowledged – it is The Queenslea by Oryx Communities and Hassell.
Ok now for the winner. This is a first of its kind in WA. It is innovative and the company that chose to undertake this project really put some skin in the game. They had to fight all the way to gain approvals and the passion and drive that was displayed by the Director was admirable. The winner is WA’s first timber built apartment, DeHavilland by Bluerock Projects.
Finalists: Canning City Centre rejuvenation – City of Canning, Lucent – Celsius Properties, Arthouse - Edge Visionary Living, Sabina – Finbar, 19 Duoro Rd – Motus Architecture, Verdant – Stirling Capital
