Trial opens door to apartment living

March 23, 2019

When Jorja Wootton heard of the opportunity to live in an apartment completely free for 3 months, courtesy of Department of Communities and WA Apartment Advocacy she jumped at the chance, visiting both the IKEA furnished apartment at Arbor North as well as registering with the Tiny Home at Belmont Forum.

And last night at a VIP function, Medical receptionist Jorja was named ahead of 100 other keen candidates to commence the 3-month stay at Arbor North from 30 March.

Currently living at home, Jorja said she was delighted to have the chance to branch out and see if apartment living suited her.  “I like the idea of the security of an apartment and with the IKEA interior design, the apartment is a perfect fit for just me,” Jorja said.

“I didn’t want to be like my sister and wait until I was nearly 30 before I left home and so this is the perfect opportunity to see if I can be truly independent.”

Samantha Reece, Director of WA Apartment Advocacy said that it was great to see so many young females apply for the trial.

“Westpac’s Home Ownership Report clearly demonstrates that women (28%) are ahead of men (20%) when it comes to home ownership and that is why it is so important to have housing choices in each suburb,” Ms Reece said.

“Through the Department of Communities’ Opening Doors program young people can get into a one- bedroom apartment, like the one Jorja will be moving into, from as little as $176,000 with shared equity loan provided through the State Government’s Keystart initiative.  “This means that they also receive the FHOG and can move in without a hefty 20% deposit”.

The apartment trial at Arbor North comes hot on the heels of the 12-month trial at Oracle Apartments and coincides with Mirvac’s inaugural trial with socialites in Claremont.
