94% of Councils not meeting infill targets

Thirty of 32 Perth councils have failed to hit infill development targets set by the state government, figures obtained exclusively by WAtoday show.

Six years on from the release of the targets, more than half of Perth’s local government areas have failed to reach even 50 per cent of their goal, and some councils are yet to add a single net dwelling.

While a depressed property market has undoubtedly played a role, some councils have faced resident opposition to zoning changes while at least one mayor is questioning the legitimacy of the targets at all.
