WAAA opens first educational shopfront

On Sunday 5 May WA Apartment Advocacy will undertake another first for the State, opening its inaugural educational shop front in Fremantle, to optimise on the newly endorsed Freo Alternative planning framework. Launching with the Minister for Housing, the Hon Peter Tinley MLA, the pop-up shop in the High St Mall will showcase a number of housing design options commonly referred to as the “Missing Middle.” The Freo Alternative, which was passed by Fremantle Council in early 2019, has nominated blocks in the locale, which are over 600sqm and which can accommodate three homes while still maintaining 70% of the site as public open space, hosting one deep rooted tree and one car bay per dwelling

Research shows height equates to bold

A survey issued by WAAA and completed by 300 respondents has shown over 90% acceptance for high rise, with chosen designs reflecting bolder elements than that for low rise. Fast on the heels of the release of WA Design Guidelines, WAAA sought to garner community feedback on what design aspects they would include in their own apartment plan. Survey results released today by the WAAA, has shown that 86% of WA investors believe their apartment will increase in value within the next ten years. The Research, which was distributed nationally with the assistance of Strata Community Association (SCA), reflected 1158 WA respondents, of a total of 3312 apartment owners and renters. The data further showed that 82% of investors bought an apartment because of its location with only 39% quoting because it was affordable. Research released today by WA Apartment Advocacy, in advance of the Property Council Multi Unit conference tomorrow, shows that location, lock and leave and mobility ranked as the top three reasons why WA apartment livers had chosen to buy their current apartment.
